In one of his classic literary masterpieces, author Jules Verne describes a fantastic voyage around the world taking place in eighty days.  The Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center (GEHC) has Verne beat and proposes a tour of the world in less than three hours and at a cost of only $1.00 per person!

Join the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center and local Girl Scouts from the Apalachee Service Unit as we celebrate World Thinking Day on Saturday, February 25, 2012.

"The GEHC is excited to partner with our local Girl Scout troops and host them as they participate in the annual World Thinking Day event," said Jason West, GEHC Director of Development and Programming.

World Thinking Day is a learning opportunity that celebrates international friendships and reminds everyone that Girl Scouts are a part of a global community with members in more than 150 countries.  This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts, making the celebration even more special.

"At World Thinking Day, each participating troop will adopt a specific country, share information about that country, provide a taste of that country's cuisine, and make a "swap" that is reflective of the culture," said West. "With more than 20 troops planning to attend, visitors will get to experience a taste of countries, such as China, Mexico, Ireland, Japan, France, Italy, and the list goes on."

West points out that World Thinking Day may be organized by the Girl Scouts but the public is invited to participate. "You don't have to be a Girl Scout to enjoy this program.  It is for everyone, and I hope people across Northeast Georgia will come and experience it," said West.

In honor of the event, the GEHC will charge a special discounted admission between the hours of 11:00am and 2:00pm.  Visitors can participate in the program, see the Living in Space exhibit and experience an e-Planetarium show for $1.00 a person.  As always, GEHC members are admitted free.  There will be a separate Girl Scout charge of a dime per beverage/food item and swap.
